about us

Born out of a cry of the wilderness heart, Beyond the Threshold is a growing, connected group of men and women who share a common respect for the wilderness, each other, and the wider community.

We are located in Perth, Western Australia, and offer nature based rites of passage in the form of vision fasts. In the near future we will also be offering training for rite of passage guides.

We acknowledge that the arc of a human life includes an accumulation of initiatory experiences - some large, others less so. The interplay of growth and decay that these experiences contain, form - in part - the essence of our life.

And so it is that we have chosen to offer the vision fast as a time-honored way for individuals to mark and make meaning of their own transitions.

Glenis Taylor

Glenis Taylor

Since 2006 Glenis has held a range of roles in rite of passage programs for both teens and adults and trained as a guide with Rites of Passage, Inc, in 2008. Being an experienced vision fast guide, and also an educator for over twenty years, reflects her joy of being creatively connected with both people and nature. Glenis brings a deep passion for sharing the fruits of mother earth’s teachings and being of service to the greater community.

Gary Williams

Gary Williams

A man of vision, a germinator of seeds, a storyteller from the heart. Gary brings listening and ‘hearing the unspoken’ to his calling as a passage rite guide. Through his continuing life journey of internal reconciliation he offers the gifts of new growth and the celebration of being alive. He has been actively involved with youth and adult rite of passage work since 2005 and completed his training as a wilderness guide with The School of Lost Borders in 2007.

what we provide

We provide the substantial level of logistical and practical support that a wilderness based program demands. While the very nature of a vision fast requires that an individual is prepared to undergo an appropriate degree of challenge, our primary concern is that they do this safely.

If you are interested in knowing more or participating then in the first instance contact us and we can discuss this further. Dates and details are given in our program page.

Ningaloo Reef
Ningaloo Reef

Ningaloo Reef has gained an impressive reputation as one of Earth's last ocean paradises. The reef is 320 km long and is Australia's largest fringing coral reef and the only large reef positioned very close to the mainland.

It can range from 150 metres to 15 kilometers offshore and encompasses a massive 5,000 square kilometres of ocean with 500 species of tropical fish and 220 species of coral in all.

Ningaloo Reef is famous for swimming with whale sharks, it's superb sea kayaking, snorkeling and diving.
